Internet Safety Tips for Parents

1) Learn about the Internet.

2) It is good to know things about the Internet because even if you don't have a computer your child can access it in other places.

3) Make a rule for the Internet and allow certain sites and a limited time.

4) Set your computer in a open area so you can see it.

5) Check sites your child likes to visit.

6) Block sites your child should not be visiting.

7) Install a search site for your child.

8) Make a folder your child can bookmark sites.

9) Don't put your child's picture on any sites.

10) Tell your children to not give out any information about themselves or any family member.

11) Teach your children to tell you when someone is asking for personal information.

12) Tell your children not to talk to a stranger online.

13) If your kid starts getting phone calls from a stranger, use the Internet Safety Tips for Parent and teach your children to tell you.

14) Children should also know that they won't be in trouble when they come across something online. If they feel that they will get into trouble and have their privileges taken away, they won't want to tell you if something just 'pops' up on the screen! They will tell you what they feel comfortable telling you.

15) Tell your child or children to report immediately if someone is harasses them on the Internet.
